The Phillies’ plans to go with a six-man rotation didn’t last long. Zack Wheeler was placed on the IL with a scary injury after dealing with shoulder soreness this month. Additionally, another 2025 NL All-Star, Kyle Stowers, will soon join him on the injured list.
The Phillies announced after their game on August 16 that Zack Wheeler was placed on the injured list with a right upper extremity blood clot. No timetable was given for his return.
Following today’s game, the Phillies placed right-hander pitcher Zack Wheeler on the 15-day injured list with a Right Upper Extremity Blood Clot.

Wheeler had been dealing with shoulder soreness this month. He also suffered a velocity drop, as his four-seamer velo dropped on average 1.2 MPH in August compared to July.
X-rays on Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien‘s wrist came back negative.
Semien missed the team’s game on the 16th after taking a pitch off his wrist. He played the entire game on the 15th but dealt with swelling afterwards.
Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers suffered a Grade 1 strain on his left side. Per the team, Stowers will be placed on the IL before their August 17 game against the Red Sox.
Manager Clayton McCullough stated that Stowers will miss a few weeks.
Astros closer Josh Hader confirmed he’ll miss the rest of the regular season. He is hopeful to return in the postseason. Hader was placed on the IL with a shoulder injury earlier this week.
The Brewers placed DL Hall on the 15-day IL with a right oblique strain.
Cardinals outfielder Victor Scott II left the team’s game on August 16 with a left ankle sprain. Additionally, Willson Contreras and Brendan Donovan, both of whom have been nursing injuries, did not start.
Twins outfielder Alan Roden hit the injured list with a left thumb sprain.
George Springer (Blue Jays), Michael Lorenzen (Royals), and Orlando Arcia (Rockies) were activated off the injured list.
