The Phillies’ plans to go with a six-man rotation didn’t last long. Zack Wheeler was placed on the IL with a scary injury after dealing with shoulder soreness this month. Additionally, another 2025 NL All-Star, Kyle Stowers, will soon join him on the injured list.

Wheeler out with blood clot

The Phillies announced after their game on August 16 that Zack Wheeler was placed on the injured list with a right upper extremity blood clot. No timetable was given for his return.

Wheeler had been dealing with shoulder soreness this month. He also suffered a velocity drop, as his four-seamer velo dropped on average 1.2 MPH in August compared to July.

X-rays on Semien negative

X-rays on Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien‘s wrist came back negative.

Semien missed the team’s game on the 16th after taking a pitch off his wrist. He played the entire game on the 15th but dealt with swelling afterwards.

Stowers headed to IL

Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers suffered a Grade 1 strain on his left side. Per the team, Stowers will be placed on the IL before their August 17 game against the Red Sox.

Manager Clayton McCullough stated that Stowers will miss a few weeks.
