Player: Slater de Brun

Hometown: Bend, Oregon

Position: Outfield

Description: Bats – L / Throws – L / 5-foot-9

Program: Summit High School / Vanderbilt University (commit)

Background

Slater de Brun’s name is gaining some steam ahead of this year’s draft. He has strong ties north of the border, as his mother was a student at McGill University, along with a TV professional with various Canadian streams.

De Brun is a 2025 high school graduate from Summit High School in Bend, Oregon, USA. The high school prospect is also committed to the well-established Vanderbilt University. The eighteen-year-old was a part of the USA 18U national team but broke his thumb during World Cup qualifying play.

The outfield prospect shows strength all around, and his profile fits division one baseball in a starter capacity. De Brun was set to offer a heavily scouted bat to the Southeastern Conference in the NCAA; however, his fate may change in July’s amateur draft selections. He could be one of the first Canadian-tied players off the draft board.

Profile

College prep baseball holds the performances at the World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) with high regard, as scouts weigh in heavily on evaluations. De Brun’s performance at the WWBA’s in 2023 in Jupiter, Florida, put him in the spotlight.

The eighteen-year-old stands 5-foot-9, weighing 187 lbs, and does everything on the field from the left side. Some may say he’s undersized, and most would say he compensates with tools and fundamentals that are workable at the professional level.

The outfielder has a strong, compact bat from the left side that works bat-to-ball and makes plays happen. He’s good from the contact side, works most fields, and will shift defence on his pull-side tendencies.  He is streaky at the dish, with a composed stance, good use of his lower half, line-drive approach up the middle, and a good two-strike approach. De Brun will find the gaps and get on base, putting his team in a threatening position. His running game adds to the fear of pitchers as he is a threat on the base paths. The outfielder has range and covers a large portion of the grass, producing a strong toss to the infield.

A .370 batting average with 26 RBIs, 22 stolen bases, and multiple extra-base hits displays the critical tools for winning. He impressed heavily at the Perfect Game circuit and also spent his 2024 summer with the Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team.

Draft Potential

The outfielder may be undersized; however, a 5-foot-9 left-handed compact hitter has never been an issue at selection time. De Brun is ranked 25th of MLB’s top draft prospects for 2025, and he’s expected to hear his name in the first two rounds of the upcoming MLB Draft.
