Player: Timothy Piasentin

Hometown: Coquitlam, British Columbia

Position: Infielder

Description: Bats – L  / Throws – R  / 6’3”, 215 lbs

Program: Okotoks Dawgs / Junior National Team

Background

Hailing from the West Coast, Tim Piasentin is one of the most anticipated Canadian prospects heading into the 2025 MLB draft. Originally from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Piasentin has made his mark in college prep baseball within both Canada and the United States.

Piasentin attends Foothills Composite in Alberta and has played for both the Coquitlam Reds and the mighty Okotoks Dawgs. The Dawgs and the Province of Alberta are notorious for developing professional baseball players in this era. The infielder also represented his country on the Junior National Team, creating a spotlight for himself against established pro players in the Dominican Summer League and in their extended spring training trips.

He participated in the 2024 Canadian Futures Showcase hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays, where he finished with a .333 batting average, a .538 on-base percentage, and a .444 slugging percentage. Piasentin showed out well physically and went on to win the tournament’s home run derby, belting 22 home runs in four rounds. He was also participating in the MLB Draft League, where he batted .333 with a .867 OPS, showing his hitting tools.

The infielder is ranked 160th top draft prospect by MLB, along with being 325th on Perfect Game’s top 500 list. The power-house is committed to the University of Miami, as he juggles draft possibilities.

Profile

The big bat towers in the box with an athletic stance that can drive the ball from pole to pole. Piasentin presents a big bat with raw attributes and workable tools. His raw power is apparent, with home run ability and a plus-100 mph exit velocity. His left-handed swing is very fundamental and consistent.

The prospect shows good bat speed, staying closed, and keeping his hands inside to fight the inner part of the plate, and dominate middle-middle. Piasentin’s two-strike approach is healthy, and his launch angle seems evident. His overall hitting abilities were questioned, but repetition for such a player will build consistency. He has a 108.2 mph max exit velocity with a 105.4 mph average. His hand speed is 22.2, 74 mph max bat speed and a 6.80 seconds best on his 60-yard time.

Piasentin runs a best sub-seven, with workable athleticism; however, his long-term fate will not be at third base. He projects as a left-handed hitting first baseman with spotty appearances at the hot corner.

Draft Potential

The Miami commit will be exposed to great developmental opportunities as a student. His potential to be drafted is extremely high; however, his positioning won’t be that early. Teams will love his bat and work with the defence, but he’s a fit to be selected likely on Day 2, barring a decision to attend post-secondary.
