After the New York Yankees selected him in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M, Kaeden Kent’s contract details have been revealed. He went as the No. 103 overall pick.
Kent signed a contract worth $744,400, according to MLB.com’s Jim Callis. That means he signed for his full slot value as the 103rd selection.
The son of former MLB star Jeff Kent, Kaeden Kent put together a decorated career at Texas A&M. He was a crucial part of the Aggies’ 2024 team which made a run to the College World Series championship series.
Kent put together a strong sophomore season in 2024 as he hit .327 with four home runs and 28 RBI. He especially shined in the College World Series, going 10-for-24 with a home run and seven RBI in Omaha. That set the table for his junior year in 2025, and he found his power stroke.
Kent started all 56 game for Texas A&M this past season. He hit .279 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI while also leading the Aggies with 19 multi-hit games. Following his junior campaign, he declared for the MLB Draft and ultimately went to the New York Yankees as the No. 103 overall pick in the third round.
Kaeden Kent started his college career as more of a contact hitter, totaling five home runs during his first two years at Texas A&M. But he broke out for some power as a junior this past year, and he also shined at shortstop for the Aggies.
Yankees vice president of domestic amateur scouting Damon Oppenheimer shared what the Yankees saw in Kent following his selection in the draft. He pointed out his background with his dad, and the impact of his ability to know how to navigate the big leagues.
“Our scouting for Kaeden goes back to the Cape Cod League, where we’ve had success watching college athletes play well in a professional environment. He also played well two years ago with Texas A&M in the College World Series. He’s a left-handed hitter, athletic, and can really play shortstop, which he showed us this past year,” Oppenheimer said. “Growing up around his father, Kaeden has experienced elite baseball, so he knows what it takes and has seen what his dad had to do to be a successful ballplayer. For us, Kaeden has made a name for himself.”
