The Biggest Debut Patch Chases

Yes, the main focus of this product that started back in the 2023 iteration, is that of the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph that is to be considered the holy grail rookie card for the player depicted. Each card displays a patch worn by said player in their very first game at the big league level.

These cards are extremely rare, but are the ultimate reason why the pricing is so high for this product when it comes to the Hobby version ($350 with 1 autograph guaranteed) or the Jumbo version ($675 with 3 autographs guaranteed).

There are 270 debut patch autos on the checklist, with a couple notable exceptions that include Jac Caglianone, whom Topps has previously said they are holding for 2026 products and Trey Yesavage, who likely made his debut too late in the season to make the cut.

The biggest debut patch chases in 2025 Topps Chrome Update are highlighted by Rookie of the Year winners Nick Kurtz and Drake Baldwin. James Wood, Ben Rice, Cam Smith, Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, Luke Keaschall, Matt Shaw and Roki Sasaki will be the other big names to chase.

Veteran Presence

The other underrated aspect of Chrome every year is the amount of fun legend autos they include. Two years ago we got Ichiro and Ken Griffey Jr. This year we’re getting Barry Bonds, Luis Gonzalez and Hideo Nomo who hasn’t had a licensed baseball autograph in 20 years.

And speaking of legends, comedian and television producer Larry David will have autographs as well. I have a feeling the 1/1 of that particular card will sell pretty pretty well.

Super Hero Treament

Aside from the Debut Patches, Chrome Update always dazzles with the short-printed inserts. Expose, Home Field Advantage, Celebracion, Helix and Radiating Rookies all make their returns from previous years.

New rare inserts for 2025:

Alter Ego Superheroes – The 10-card set will feature past and present players given the super hero treatment. Aaron Judge will give new meaning to “All Rise” while we can Pete Alonso will get some sort of Polar Bear persona displayed.

Major League Minis – This set features 10 cards as well that will feature real-life images but with miniature versions of the players depicted.

Mickey & Friends – This 30-card set will give way to Disney fans as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. Each character will get 10 cards of them in a road MLB uniform covering all 30 teams. They then will rotate in 2026 and 2027 until all 3 characters dawn every team.
