2026 Cape Cod League Preview: Harwich Mariners

It wasn’t the best year for Riley Goodman, the redshirt freshman whom the now-former head coach Paul Mainieri tabbed as the Gamecocks’ Opening Day starter. While he flashed good stuff, including a mid-90s fastball, he walked almost a batter per inning and also hit eight batters over 22 IP, most on the USC team in 2026.

Mercer junior Miguel Hugas was an innings eater, as he led the program in total innings (77.1 IP) this season. A lot of contact was given up, and 52 strikeouts during his 2026 campaign.

He’s one of several juniors on the Harwich team. Jakob Schultz struck out 25 over 19.2 IP out of the Commodores’ bullpen. Griffen Paige led Wright State in strikeouts (77) this season.

Brady Miller was one of the key pieces of the Boston College 2026 rotation, as he struck out 62 over 56 innings. Interesting stuff with the sophomore, who possesses a low-90s slider and a changeup that differed in velocity off the heater by about 10-12 MPH.

Catchers

Junior Connor Capece was one of the more productive hitters on an older Bluejays team. Capece finished with 65 hits, tied with seniors Ben North and Nate McHugh for most on the team this season.

Sophomore Ernie Echevarria hit very well in the in-conference portion of the 2026 season for Penn. Echevarria finished with a .270/.388/.360 slash line this season.

Infielders

In what was a great year for the Boston College baseball program, sophomore Julio Solier shone. Solier had a team-high 84 hits and also finished with the most runs scored (57), highlighting just how important a sparkplug he was to the Eagles’ program.

Now, the 20-year-old sophomore is in the Cape Cod League to close the recorded part of the 2026 season on a high note. And he did that in the early parts of the season, as he swung-and-missed just twice over the first three days of the season.

Sophomore Tyler Smolinski, much like Solier, also had a big year. Smolinski slashed .339/.440/.619 for the Wildcats this season.

However, the premier name amongst this group of hitters is sophomore Quinton Coats, who hit 28 home runs this season for a deep Bearcats team. However, now comes the part where Coats can prove he can hit with wood bats. So far (60% Whiff% as of 6/15), it’s been an adjustment.

Wright State’s JP Peltier finished with 10 home runs this season, second-most on the team.

Outfielders

Colin Larson batted below .230 this season for the Eagles. However, Larson posted the fourth-highest on-base percentage (.412) on the Boston College team this season.
