One day after he was removed after being hit by a pitch on July 31, Willson Contreras was not in the Red Sox’s starting lineup versus the Dodgers.
Contreras was in concussion protocol as of August 1 (h/t Boston Globe).
Speaking of the Dodgers, catcher Will Smith will need three to four weeks to ramp up before returning to the active roster, per manager Dave Roberts.
Smith resumed baseball activities this week.
Pirates 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn, expected to miss six to eight weeks, was placed on the 10-day IL with a quad strain.
The Mariners placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day IL with a left forearm strain.
Giants catcher Jesus Rodriguez was placed on the 10-day IL with right elbow neuritis.
Dodgers pitcher Will Klein was placed on the 15-day IL with elbow discomfort.
Twins pitcher Mike Paredes (oblique strain) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Nationals pitcher Brad Lord struck out two over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Rochester.
Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson struck out three over two scoreless innings for Double-A Chattanooga.
Tigers outfielder Wenceel Perez went 0-2 with a strikeout for Low-A Lakeland.
The Braves scratched Reynaldo Lopez versus the Nationals due to left knee inflammation.
Giants infielder Luis Arraez was scratched due to cramps (h/t SF Chronicle).
And in cleaning up some lingering news from July 31, Will Vest of the Tigers had season-ending surgery.
