2026 MLB Draft Review: Milwaukee Brewers

The players

Milwaukee used their top pick in 2025 on Brady Ebel, the son of former Minor Leaguer and current Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel. It’s a move that has worked to this point, as Ebel showed incredible strike zone control and some pop in his first pro season. This year, Brady’s younger brother Trey joined the organization.

A bit of a different physical skill set for Trey, compared to Brady. Trey was a faster runner in high school and is also three inches shorter than Brady. You can also see some real projectable power with Trey, making him a highly intriguing hitter.

After Ebel, the Brewers took two college outfielders, Sawyer Strosnider and Kyle Jones. Both are different players.

Strosnider was one of the best freshman hitters in the country back in 2025. He led the Horned Frogs in batting average (.350) that season. However, he slashed .273/.415/.590 in his sophomore season. Obviously, the average took a dip. But Stronsider still checks all the boxes: power, with exit velocities back that up, and plate discipline.

Across 50 games, Stronsider walked 43 times.

Jones, meanwhile, checks another box that the Brewers love: speed. The former Gator missed all but four games in 2025 but was a weapon on the basepaths in 2024 with Stetson and 2026. He stole 40 total bases between ’24 and ’26.

Aside from those three picks, the Brewers didn’t dip too much into the college pool. Milwaukee did grab the rare Ivy League pitcher, taking Brown pitcher Ryan Oshinskie in the sixth round. Oshinskie didn’t pitch at all in 2026 but did net a good amount of strikeouts in his first two seasons.

Marcus Kruzan, from nearby Minnesota, showed a fastball that ran up to 95 MPH, plus a curveball and a changeup. Milwaukee also took Carsten Sabathia, son of former Brewer CC Sabathia.

Carsten was a standout in the New Jersey high school scene before enrolling with Georgia Tech in 2023. However, he didn’t see consistent action until his senior season, as he never hit particularly well with either GT or Houston. He did hit six home runs this past year with the Cougars.

The Brewers have regularly been aggressive with respect to targeting amateur talent. Meaning, the club will often look to target high-upside players later on in the draft — and sometimes early — with the hopes of getting a deal. Just last year, the Brewers drafted Parker Coil, now-Georgia Tech pitcher Cooper Underwood, now-UCLA infielder Dominic Cadiz, and current Yankees prospect Brendan Brock.

None of those players signed.

This time around, five of the Brewers’ draft picks didn’t sign. Now, the fact that the Brewers didn’t go overslot for any of those unsigned players in the back half allowed the club to allocate nearly $1.5MM to California prep pitcher Julian Garcia, a big kid with a low-to-mid-90s heater.

However, perhaps the one who “got away” was Aidan Knaak. Knaak was the ace of the Clemson Tigers, who didn’t have a great year in 2026. However, the right-hander was the kind of pitcher who could have been a Logan Henderson-type pitcher. Low-90s fastball with carry and a good changeup.

Instead, Knaak will look to improve his stock in 2027 with the Tigers.
