May 16 saw several low-profile trades made by the Athletics. Also in the AL West, Jose Siri is back in the Majors, as the Los Angeles Angels promoted the toolsy outfielder from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Siri called up by Angels

Outfielder Jose Siri was selected to the 40-man roster on May 16, bringing him back to the Majors.

Siri missed almost all of last year due to injury but also had issues both in the field and at the plate with the Mets last season. There was, as expected, a lot of swing-and-miss from Siri in Triple-A Salt Lake. Still, he slugged .504 with the Bees before his promotion.

Rodriguez back with Yankees

The Yankees recalled pitcher Elmer Rodriguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rodriguez rejoins the Yankees after the club officially placed Max Fried on the IL, retroactive to earlier in the week.

Trades

The A’s made two trades on May 16. One saw the Athletics acquire infielder Alika Williams for 22-year-old High-A pitcher Kyle Robinson. Robinson, a groundball pitcher, was an 11th-round pick out of Texas Tech two years ago.

Additionally, the A’s traded away recently DFA’d outfielder Junior Perez for Minor League pitcher Jackson Nove.

Nove, a 23-year-old left-handed reliever of the University of Kentucky, struck out 41 batters over 23 innings. The 6’5” lefty pitched very well in April (34.4% Whiff%, 2.51 ERA) and did just as well before being moved to the Athletics.

Recalls & options

Will Brennan (Giants), Joey Gerber (Mets), Nick Sogard (Rays), and Brandon Eisert (White Sox) were recalled from the Minors.

Tristan Beck (Giants), Bryce Teodosio (Angels), Tyler Schweitzer (White Sox), Brenan Hanifee (Tigers), and Coleman Crow (Brewers) were optioned to Triple-A.

Other moves

The A’s designated Michael Stefanic for assignment.

Austin Gomber (Braves), Austin Wynns (Angels), Lou Trivino (Phillies), and Kirby Snead (Phillies) signed Minor League deals.
