2026 Transactions: Jays Promote Tiedemann, Waiver Claims

At long last, Toronto Blue Jays fans got their first glimpse of Ricky Tiedemann at the big-league level on August 15. Tiedemann made his MLB debut against the Yankees, ending a lengthy odyssey for the dynamic pitching prospect.

Tiedemann promoted

The Blue Jays promoted left-hander Ricky Tiedemann to the Majors on August 15, the day he also made his MLB debut.

Tiedemann was — and still is, to a certain extent — a vaunted prospect in the Blue Jays’ system for years. However, his value slipped thanks to injuries, which limited him to just 15 games between the 2024 and 2026 Minor League seasons. This season, he pitched in seven games, two as a starter. But he worked exclusively as a short-length pitcher.

The left-hander struck out two in his Major League debut.

Waiver claims

Troy Watson was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from the Tigers. The Angels, meanwhile, did the same with Trevor Martin, claiming him from the Rays.

Detroit selected the 29-year-old Watson and added him to the 40-man roster back in July. He never saw MLB action after that move and was DFA’d on August 12. He struck out 46 over 65 innings across three levels this season.

Martin spent a brief time with the Rays this season.

Both Watson and Martin were optioned to the Minors.

Recalls & options

Logan Allen (Guardians) and Joe Boyle (Rays) were recalled from the Minors.

Cesar Prieto (Cardinals), Edgar Quero (White Sox), Sammy Peralta (Angels), Franco Aleman (Guardians), Chris Roycroft (Rays), and Chase Lee (Blue Jays) were optioned.

Other notes

Milwaukee acquired Jonathan Ornelas in a trade with the Athletics for cash (yes, trades can still happen past the MLB Trade Deadline).

Daz Cameron (Blue Jays) and Michael Fulmer (Angels) had their contracts selected from Triple-A.

Marco Gonzales (Rangers), Ji Hwan Bae (Brewers), and Lazaro Estrada (Blue Jays) were designated for assignment.
