Hours before Carson Benge hit his first career MLB home run, the Mets reportedly made a depth move to bring in more outfield depth. Tommy Pham, who played for the team in 2023, is back with the organization.

Pham signs Minor League deal with Mets

Per ESPN, the Mets have signed outfielder Tommy Pham to a Minor League deal.

Pham spent last year with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he slashed .245/.330/.370 with 10 home runs and 28 extra-base hits over 120 games. He also walked over 11% of the time, which has been one of the hallmarks of his game since his days as a Cardinal in the 2010s.

The 38-year-old spent half a season with the Mets in 2023. It was a good year for Pham, as he posted a .820 OPS with the team before he was traded to the Diamondbacks for their run towards the National League pennant.

He becomes likely outfield depth for a Mets team that currently has Carson Benge as the starting right fielder. The Mets lost some depth in the spring when Mike Tauchman went down due to a torn meniscus.

Perkins called up by Brewers

The Brewers called up outfielder Blake Perkins on March 26.

The move was necessitated, as outfielder Jackson Chourio will miss the next few weeks on the injured list.

Minor League releases

The following players were released before the season started on the 25th:

Haase slashed .286/.375/.536 with two home runs over 18 spring games with the Giants.

Reid-Foley gave up two home runs over 1.1 IP with the Braves in Grapefruit League action.

Colorado selected and optioned former Marlin Valente Bellozo to Triple-A.

The Blue Jays signed former Nationals and Mariners pitcher Austin Voth to a Minor League deal. He was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Twins catcher Alex Jackson, who was designated for assignment on the 25th, was sent outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
