
Nick Castellanos and the Padres arrived in Philadelphia & started a three-game series on June 2. But Castellanos won’t suit up against his old team in Philly, as the Padres designated him for assignment on June 3. It was one of notable moves made on the day.

The Padres signed Castellanos in mid-February, with the hope that he could be valuable as a platoon/bench bat. However, the results were mixed.
Castellanos had nine extra-base hits, including four home runs, with San Diego this season. But on the other hand, he slashed .191/.221/.339 (.560) with the Padres.
The Blue Jays signed Justin Topa to a Minor League deal.
Topa was DFA’d and released by the Twins after what was a difficult 2026 season with Minnesota. He had one of the worst wOBA figures in the Majors this season among relievers but has been an effective option in the past.
Reds outfielder TJ Friedl was optioned to Triple-A Louisville, ending a tough two months for him. Friedl slashed .179/.259/.256 with the Reds this season. Noelvi Marte was recalled to replace Friedl on the roster.
The Mets optioned pitcher Jonah Tong to Triple-A and recalled Joey Gerber.
Tampa Bay recalled Mason Englert and optioned Trevor Martin.
Boston recalled infielder Anthony Seigler.
Samad Taylor had his contract selected by the Padres and will replace Nick Castellanos on the active roster.
