After a strong 2026, the Phillies extended one of their best relievers from this past year for next season. Plus, the Braves made a tweak to the 40-man roster, adding infielder Brett Wisely.
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski stated that the club re-signed reliever Tim Mayza to a one-year deal.
It’ll mark the third season that Mayza’s been with the Phillies. He originally joined late in 2025 as a free agent, made the MLB roster in March after he was on a Minor League deal, and proceeded to become one of the most important relievers during the 2026 campaign for Philadelphia.
Mayza punched out 64 and walked 18 over 67.1 IP. He finished fourth in overall appearances this season, behind Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering, and Jose Alvarado. Out of the 200 relievers with 35+ appearances, Mazya’s .289 opponents’ wOBA ranked 65th.
The Braves made two moves on the 15th. Infielder Brett Wisely was selected to the 40-man roster, and outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Wisely didn’t see any action at the MLB level during the 2026 campaign. But he did play 26 games (63 plate appearances) between Atlanta and San Francisco in 2025, slashing .185/.279/.315 in that time.
The 27-year-old had 29 stolen bases and 42 extra-base hits with the Stripers this season.
Additionally, infielder Luke Williams elected free agency. He was outrighted to Triple-A earlier in the month by the Braves.
