Max Scherzer will be taking his talents up north for the 2025 MLB season.

According to Jon Heyman , Scherzer is signing a one-year $15.5 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

This is a big win for the Blue Jays considering how many top free agents they have missed out on during the offseason, including Juan Soto, Max Fried, and Roki Sasaki.

Scherzer spent the 2024 season with the Texas Rangers but only started nine games due to hamstring and shoulder injuries. He finished the season with a 3.95 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings.

Even though he's 40, he feels he still has some good baseball left in him. He's won three Cy Young awards and two World Series titles. He helped the Nationals win their first World Series in 2019 before doing the same with the Rangers in 2023.

Scherzer started his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was with them for two seasons before spending five seasons with the Detroit Tigers. He then signed a seven-year deal with the Washington Nationals and was with them from 2015-21 until they dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He spent the rest of the 2021 season with the Dodgers before playing for the New York Mets for the 2022 season and half of the 2023 season. The Mets dealt him to the Rangers during the 2023 trade deadline.

Since coming into the majors, Scherzer has started in 457 games, compiling a 216-112 record with a 3.16 ERA and 3,407 strikeouts. He's one of the best pitchers of this generation and is looking to keep the good times rolling in 2025.

He joins a Blue Jays team that went 74-88 during the 2024 season. They haven't won a playoff series since the 2016 season.
