The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners are scheduled to face each other in one half of a pair of American League Divisional Series starting in Seattle at 8:38 p.m. ET on Fox Saturday.

The series will pit the sixth-seeded Tigers against the second-seeded Mariners in a matchup between two teams that both tasted defeat during the stretch run of the 2025 regular season.

The Tigers lost 13 of 16 games down the stretch, falling out of first place in the American League Central, while the Mariners lost three straight to close the season after seven straight wins.

Managers AJ Hinch (Detroit) and Dan Wilson (Seattle) both played catcher during their playing days, a common thread between two excellent managers that will add to the intrigue and suspense surrounding what will most likely be a competitive and exciting ALDS.

Here are four predictions for the 2025 ALDS with the winner advancing to face the victor between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees on the opposite side of the American League bracket:

4. The Tigers Will Steal One Before Comerica Park Return-

The Tigers lost four of six games to the Mariners during the regular season but are likely to throw ace Tarik Skubal out against the Mariners in Seattle, giving them a strong chance to steal one at T-Mobile Park in the Pacific Northwest.

The Mariners have strong starting pitching but no one quite like Detroit's ace, who is a man on a mission this postseason.

3. Cal Raleigh Will Feast Against Tigers Pitching-

Raleigh led MLB in home runs with 60 during the regular season and is well rested after a bye in the first round.

The switch hitter will be a thorn in the Tigers' side all series and will create several tense moments toward the end of games against Detroit's surging bullpen.

Take the over on Raleigh home runs if you're a sports bettor.

Expect several white knuckle late game at-bats with the Tigers' bullpen forced to choose between walking or pitching to the Mariners superstar in late game situations.

2. The Tigers' Bullpen Will Fare Better Than Expected-

Detroit's bullpen was much-maligned down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs, but pitching coach Chris Fetter's group has more than enough gas left in the tank to perform well in the ALDS.

Detroit gave up just eight runs as a pitching staff during their series win over the Guardians with bullpen stars Will Vest, Tyler Holton and Kyle Finnegan combining for nine-plus shutout innings of ball.

The Tigers' bullpen was a strength during their sunny regular season days and things are trending in the right direction after a challenging finish to their postseason series on the road against Cleveland.

1. The Tigers Will Defeat the Seattle Mariners-

The Mariners have a more well-rounded team on paper with better power hitting and more depth than the Tigers in key spots.

The burning question in this series is which Tigers team will show up — the one that led the MLB in winning percentage for much of the regular season or the one that crumbled under the weight of expectations later in the season.

Expect the Mariners to blitz the Tigers early in the series, which will bring out the best in Detroit's long dormant but underrated batting lineup.

The Tigers will win this series 4-3 en route to an American League Championship Series matchup with John Schneider's Toronto Blue Jays.
