Aaron Boone: Yankees clubhouse 'like a discotheque' after big win

The reeling New York Yankees notched a much-needed win over the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night, and it sounds like the team blew off some built-up steam after the game.

Wednesday’s 7-2 victory allowed the Yankees to avoid a three-game sweep and snapped a five-game slide that was part of an atrocious run during which the team dropped eight of 10 ballgames.

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone stepped in the wayback machine to find a word to describe the environment in the clubhouse, where loud music apparently was part of the festivities.

Interesting terminology aside, Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier agreed with Boone’s assessment of the rowdy environment.

“It’s really loud right now,” Frazier said of the clubhouse. “I think they’re actually about to turn the music down because it’s so loud. Everyone is excited. We’ve wanted this moment the last couple days and to get it tonight we’re definitely celebrating it and gonna try to carry it over to tomorrow.”

The Yankees obviously could use all the good vibes they can get at this late stage of the abbreviated 2020 season. After entering the 60-game slate as prohibitive World Series favorites, injuries up and down the roster — highlighted by setbacks for Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, among several others — have once again hamstrung the Bronx Bombers.

Heading into Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees have a 22-21 record and sit six games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. However, with 2020’s expanded postseason, the Yankees nevertheless currently cling to the eighth seed in the American League with 17 games left in the season.

In other words, if the Yankees not only want to hold on to their playoff positioning but improve it, the team better hope there are more nights where a loosey-goosey atmosphere is the norm, not a good vibe outlier.
