Aaron Judge reveals exact nature of his injury

New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge has not played since early June after crashing through the fence at Dodgers Stadium and injuring his toe.

On Saturday, Judge revealed the exact nature of his injury, and it sounds worse than initially believed or reported.

Judge told the media that he has a torn ligament in his toe and that there is still no timetable for his return, via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

"I don’t think too many people in here have torn a ligament in their toe,” Judge said on Saturday before the Yankees’ game against the Rangers. “If it was a quad, we’d have a better answer. If it’s an oblique or hamstring, we have answers and a timeline for that. With how unique this injury is, and it being my back foot — which I push off of and run off of — it’s a tough spot."

Judge's recovery has been slow, and he has yet to start playing catch or hitting.

Judge was injured while attempting to make a catch, crashing through the Dodger Stadium fence and hitting his foot on a piece of exposed concrete. The Dodgers have worked to make changes to the stadium in the aftermath of that play.

After setting a new American League record with 62 home runs last season, Judge was actually off to an even better start this year, hitting 19 home runs in his first 49 games before the injury. He also has a 1.078 OPS to lead the Yankees offense.

The Yankees have struggled without Judge, going just 6-10 in his absence entering play on Saturday afternoon.
