Adrian Houser Dazzles in Debut as White Sox Snap Skid with 1-0 Win Over Mariners

It took just one run and a brand new arm for the Chicago White Sox to snap their five-game losing streak Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners.

Earlier in the day, the White Sox made it official: they signed veteran right-hander Adrian Houser to a one-year deal. He toed the rubber at Rate Field just hours later, giving the Pale Hose more than they could've hoped for.

Hauser, who spent this season with the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, looked nothing like a guy who hadn't pitched in the majors in 2024. Despite a weather delay of over an hour, the 32-year-old tossed six shutout innings in his White Sox debut.

He allowed only two hits, walked three, and struck out two on 90 pitches—56 for strikes. Precisely what the South Side ordered and needed.

Palacios Delivers Lone Run

The White Sox didn't need much offense, and good thing, because they didn't offer much.

All the scoring came in the third inning when Chase Meidroth singled and stole second. Joshua Palacios brought him home with an RBI single, one of seven White Sox hits on the night.

The South Siders had a chance to break it open early with runners on first and second and no outs in the first, but came away empty. They also squandered an opportunity to tack on more runs in the third, when Luis Robert Jr. grounded into an inning-ending double play with two on and one out.

That would be the last time the White Sox had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs for the rest of the night.

Bullpen Navigates Rough Waters

Things got tight in the late innings. After Brandon Eisert worked a clean seventh, Steven Wilson came on in the eighth and made things interesting.

Wilson faced three batters, recorded one out, gave up a double, and hit a batter. Cam Booser relieved him and walked J.P. Crawford to load the bases.

Booser bounced back, striking out Mitch Garver before getting Julio Rodríguez to fly out to center. A night earlier, Rodríguez had burned the Sox in a similar spot. This time, Booser got his revenge.

Jordan Leasure took care of the ninth. He gave up a two-out double to Donovan Solano but struck out Leodys Taveras to seal the 1-0 win.

News and Notes

  • Andrew Benintendi began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.
  • Luis Robert Jr. spoke candidly pregame about his future with the team.
  • Despite the win, the White Sox are now just 5-for-33 with runners in scoring position over their last four games.
