Albert Pujols Broke Up Someone Else’s History Wednesday Night

At this point in his career, Albert Pujols is a walking history book.

Unfortunately, as he plays out the final month of his career, the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t exactly playing the best baseball right now.

They’ve lost three straight games, all of which have been shutouts.

But it could’ve been a lot worse for St. Louis, as with two outs in the top of the seventh, San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell had a no-hitter going.

That’s when Pujols came to the plate and took a 3-1 fastball the other way for the Cards first hit of the night, effectively ending Snell’s bid at history.

The Machine Ends No-No Bid

We obviously know Pujols can make history at any moment.

But he can also end somebody’s bid for history in the process.

At least Snell’s bid at a no-hitter was stopped by one of the best hitters of all time.

The Cardinals kept the line moving when Juan Yepez picked up a base-hit, but Paul DeJong struck out and the threat was through.

That was all the Cardinals were able to muster last night, as Robert Suarez and Josh Hader kept them at bay for the final two innings.

The Cardinals have been in an offensive rut as of late, but at least Pujols had a little something to show for it yesterday.

It couldn’t save the Cardinals, as they fell by an excruciating final of 1-0, but they at least were not no-hit.

The last time that happened was June 1, 2012, when Johan Santana tossed the first no-no in New York Mets history.

The Cardinals will look to bust out of their funk today as they try to avoid being swept by the Padres at Petco Park for the second straight year.
