Alex Bregman knew something needed to change as the New York Yankees surged to a 7-0 lead over his Boston Red Sox after just two innings on Friday night.
But Bregman, who has been out since May 23 with a quad injury, couldn’t help his teammates on the field. Instead, he had to find an alternative way to inspire and settled on a common superstition.
In between innings, a mustache-clad Bregman headed toward the locker room and emerged clean-shaven.
Did Breggy shave mid game?

“Did Bregman shave?” an announcer asked. “It’s gone. He did!”
It’s not the first time Bregman has attempted to spark a rally by shaving his mustache during a game. He did the same thing as a member of the Houston Astros in 2018.
Unfortunately for Bregman and the Red Sox, it wasn’t enough to fully swing the pendulum. Although Boston battled back with six runs, the Yankees eventually closed out a 9-6 victory to kick off the three-game series.
The two teams will return to the field on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. Bregman hopes he won’t have to shave his head next.
