Third baseman Alex Bregman is in his first season with the Boston Red Sox after signing a three-year, $120 million contract this past offseason with opt-out clauses after the first and second years.
The 31-year-old superstar earned his lucrative contract after nine incredible seasons with the Houston Astros, where he made his MLB debut in 2015. Bregman secured two All-Star selections, a Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and two top-5 MVP finishes from 2018–2019.
He also won two World Series titles in 2017 and 2022, postseason experience a young Red Sox team desperately needed. In 1,175 games, Bregman has a .274 batting average, .852 OPS, 205 home runs and 707 RBIs.
Bregman recently returned from a right quad strain on July 11 after missing 43 games for the Red Sox.
Ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins, the star third baseman was scratched from the lineup. Manager Alex Cora explained the reasoning behind the move pregame, “He feels good with the quad, but a little bit tired.”

Bregman has been excellent in his first year for Boston and made his third All-Star team despite missing half of the first half. Over 64 games, he has a .298 batting average, .922 OPS, 14 home runs and 44 RBIs.
Boston currently holds the second Wild Card spot in a tightly contested playoff race in the American League, and Bregman’s availability moving forward will be absolutely crucial in finishing the final stretch of the season strong in hopes of reaching October baseball.
