Ahead of the Boston Red Sox's third game against the Los Angeles Angels, manager Alex Cora spoke with reporters. There, Cora gave an update on one of the Red Sox's starters.
According to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe on Twitter/X, Cora announced that right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford will have surgery on his right wrist. Healey also reported that this surgery will "most likely" knock Crawford out for the rest of the 2025 season.
Kutter Crawford will have surgery on his right wrist, Alex Cora said. He is “most likely” out for the year.

This is a bit of horrible news from Cora, as Crawford has dealt with a lot in his effort to return to the mound for the Red Sox in 2025. He initially went on the injured list with knee and wrist issues, but had been steadily working his way back.
But late last week, Crawford suffered a setback in his wrist following a bullpen session. He had testing done, and now, a few days later, he is getting surgery on it. The surgery is likely to knock Crawford out for the remainder of the year and reset his long road to recovery.
In 2024, the last time he pitched for the Red Sox in the Major Leagues, he had a 4.36 ERA and a 9-16 record. He struck out 175 batters and pitched 183.2 innings. Crawford led all of baseball in losses, games pitched, and home runs allowed in 2024.
Across his big league career, he has a 4.56 ERA and 4.3 WAR. While he's not been an elite starter in his time with the Red Sox, he's been a quality innings-eater at worst.
Losing him for the rest of the season is a tough blow, as the Red Sox were already in need of more starters before his likely season-ending injury. Crawford has a long road of recovery ahead of him, as he looks to prepare for the 2026 MLB season.
