Sometimes, things are much more important than Major League Baseball. With family matters, personal situations, and much more, it's something that every player and coach typically has to deal with.

According to Masslive.com's Christopher Smith, Boston Red Sox Skipper Alex Cora had to make a decision in his personal life. He reported that Cora will miss the opening game of their three-game set against the New York Mets, which starts on Monday, to attend his daughter's graduation at Boston College.

“The Red Sox will open a three-game series against the Mets on Monday. Cora will skip the game to attend his daughter’s Boston College graduation. Righty Hunter Dobbins (2-1, 3.90 ERA) will start for Boston opposite right-hander Kodai Senga (4-2, 1.02 ERA),” he wrote.

This is an awesome opportunity for the Cora family to see their daughter graduate from a prestigious school. For the 49-year-old head coach, this means much more to him than playing a Monday game on May 19.

"It's going to be a very special day -- one that I'm not going to miss," Cora said before Sunday's game vs. the Atlanta Braves. "I 100% will miss the game for that. I will do that any given day. It's going to be a very special day for us."

Cora admitted that some of his decisions in the past few years haven't been easy with his daughter in college. However, he added that her mother did an amazing job and helped her while he explored his own path.

"It went fast, it went really fast," Cora said of her time in college. "For a girl from divorced parents, her mom did an amazing job, staying the course while I was playing and coaching and doing my ESPN thing. ... She's actually a reflection of her. I appreciate everything she's done for her and for us."
