Alex Cora Reveals Red Sox Made Major Internal Changes Amid Season-Long Struggles

The Boston Red Sox offense has one word to describe it, and that's average.

Frankly, the Red Sox simply aren't that great of a team, and the front office is finally starting to understand that.

Their decisions at the trade deadline will say a lot, despite some uncertainties about what could happen over the next few weeks.

The Red Sox, on paper, are a playoff team. They have some very good veterans and a lot of talented young players, but it just isn't working out, and their offense is a significant part of the blame for that.

However, over the past few games, Boston has figured out some things. They scored 15 runs against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday and 13 runs against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. Two games don't suggest that the Red Sox have figured everything out, but according to skipper Alex Cora, there have been some internal changes offensively.

“Communication-wise, we changed a few things meeting-wise,” said Cora, per MassLive. “It’s more one-on-one now that it was 10 days ago. We have the big meeting the first day of the series, but after that, (the coaches) grab (the players) one-on-one.

“I think it brings accountability. When you sit down with the hitting coach and they ask you about the stuff of the pitcher (you’re about to face) you’d better know. Sometimes when you sit as a group, you can hide. We talked about it on the way here from Anaheim last week and we started doing it against the Blue Jays. I think it helps the kids, to sit one-on-one with them and explain to them a few things.”

It's a promising sign to hear that Cora is taking control of the team's communication efforts.

Having hitter meetings is important, and perhaps it’ll be the start of something special in Boston.

There's enough talent to be as good as they've been for parts of the Year, so now just putting it all together has to be what happens next.
