Insider: Giants 'saw something concerning' with Carlos Correa medicals

MLB insider Jon Heyman has insisted neither the San Francisco Giants nor All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa experienced cold feet about a previously-agreed deal.

"I have heard that they've told people that their doctors saw something concerning, and that is always a possibility," Heyman said during an appearance on San Francisco radio station 95.7 The Game about the Giants not finalizing a contract with Correa, as shared by Logan Mullen of Audacy.

It was learned Tuesday that the Giants postponed an introductory press conference regarding landing Correa via a 13-year, $350 million deal because of a supposed medical concern related to his physical. While baseball fans around the country were sleeping early Wednesday morning, the New York Mets swooped in and agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract with the 28-year-old.

Some, such as WFAN host and former NFL player Boomer Esiason, theorized either the Giants or Correa merely had second thoughts about doing business with each other. Heyman suggested that's not the case.

"I have seen in other cases where teams did get cold feet and then you can always find something on the medicals," Heyman said. "But in this case, they’re saying the doctors did find something concerning, and you would think they’d want to complete this deal."

Heyman noted money likely wasn't an issue since the Giants went big-game hunting this fall and nearly won the signature of reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge. Judge ultimately returned to the New York Yankees on a nine-year contract worth $360 million.

Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN's Jeff Passan explained that "every team has different thresholds for giving a thumbs-up on players' medicals." In a statement shared by Maria Guardado of the MLB website, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said the club is "prohibited from disclosing confidential medical information" and that "there was a difference of opinion over the results of Carlos' physical examination."
