With a rainout, there were only three affiliate games on tap for the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
One team returned to their winning ways, while the other two affiliates lost their games.
As always, let’s start with the upper-minor affiliate, before looking at how the Vancouver Canadians and the Dunedin Blue Jays did.
New Hampshire end a five game losing streak
After five consecutive losses at the hands of the Portland Sea Dogs, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats ended that streak with a 7-1 win, defeating the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Josh Kasevich hit his first home run of the season, which was just his fifth professional home run since he started his career in 2022. Devonte Brown hit a triple, while Miguel Hiraldo and Alan Roden both hit doubles.
Kasevich finished the game with three hits, as did Brown, while Hiraldo had the only other multi-hit game, with only two hits. In total, the Fisher Cats had 11 hits, with those players accounting for 72.7% of their offence. Roden had one, Zach Britton and Garrett Spain had the other two hits.
Trenton Wallace had the start, finishing with a line of 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, while Abdiel Mendoza gave up his first run of the season and his first walk of the season. The Minor League Rule 5 draftee finished with a line of 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, and now has a season ERA of 1.38.
Trevor Clifton, who played for my hometown Ottawa Titans in the Frontier League, finished the game with a line of 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.
Vancouver shut out
On Tuesday, Spokane shut out the Canadians 4-0, which is the same record they have against the Canadians this season.
Thankfully, the Canadians weren’t no-hit this game, as they got singles from Ryan McCarty, Jace Bohrofen, Jackson Hornung, and Glenn Santiago, the last two each having two-hit performances.
Chris McElvain was tagged with all four runs, with only three counting as earned runs. He finished with a line of 4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER (4 R), 0 BB, 3 K with a home run given up. The good news is that the three relievers that pitched all haven’t given up an earned run.
Rafael Ohashi pitched three innings with no strikeouts, with the only batter reaching via a hit by pitch. Conor Larkin struck out a batter and allowed a hit, while Naswell Paulino finished with a clean inning that included a strikeout.
Dunedin blow an early lead
The Dunedin Blue Jays jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but proceeded to allow four runs in the following three innings, losing the game 4-3 to the Jupiter Hammerheads.
In total, they only had three hits from Edward Duran, Tucker Toman, and Alex Hernandez. The latter drove in the third and final run, while Roque Salinas and Yhoangel Aponte picked up the only two walks in the game.
Canadian Connor O’Halloran was tagged with the loss, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 4.20. Sebastian Espino made another appearance, striking out two batters and walking one in his inning of work. Eliander Alcalde pitched the remaining two innings, striking out two batters, walking one, and allowing a hit.
