MLB announces 12 suspensions after Angels-Mariners brawl

Major League Baseball dished out 12 suspensions Monday in response to a bench-clearing brawl between the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners that happened Sunday.

Seattle received just three of the suspensions: seven games for outfielder Jesse Winker, five games for shortstop J.P. Crawford, and two games for outfielder Julio Rodríguez. All three players were ejected Sunday.

The Angels received the brunt of the punishment with nine suspensions, although the team won't have to shuffle its lineup. Manager Phil Nevin got 10 games, assistant pitching coach Dom Chiti got five games, bench coach Ray Montgomery received a two-game ban, interpreter Manny Del Campo got two games, and catching coach Bill Haselman received a one-game suspension.

Third baseman Anthony Rendon, who is done for the year due to a wrist injury, received a five-game suspension that he'll serve after his time on the injured list is done. He's also banned from sitting on the bench for the next seven games.

That leaves only three suspensions for active Angels players, all of whom are pitchers. Andrew Wantz, who began the brawl by throwing at Winker, received three games. Reliever Ryan Tepera also got three games, and closer Raisel Iglesias is out for two games.

The Angels and Mariners are both sub-.500 this season with 35-40 and 34-40 records, respectively.
