Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado address dugout confrontation

By now, we've all seen footage of Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado arguing in the dugout over the weekend. While it's not the first time we've seen teammates get into a heated confrontation, the incident does fuel rumors that the struggling San Diego Padres are dealing with a fractured clubhouse.

But Machado and Tatis tried addressing the issue on Tuesday ahead of a home game against the first-place San Francisco Giants, saying their spat is a thing of the past.

"I'm going to answer the question you guys are going to ask me," Machado said to start off the media scrum. "It's unfortunate, something that happened in the dugout, in a crucial situation for us as a team. We also have to apologize to the fans (for them having to) see that."

Machado went on to say the matter had been resolved "internally," with Tatis adding the heated exchange is something that can fuel a team that is struggling down the stretch.

"It's part of baseball," he said. "It's part of this game. It's part of what this game brings out, especially when good players are trying to win, and stuff is not going our way."

Things didn't go the Padres' way on Tuesday night, either, as they ultimately lost 6-5 thanks to a go-ahead single by San Francisco's Lamonte Wade Jr. in the ninth inning. The loss, of course, sent Giants fans into a social media frenzy.

San Diego currently sits five games out of a Wild Card spot in the National League.
