Phillies' Andrew McCutchen takes shot at MLB owners in humorous video
Without directly mentioning any names or parties, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen offered his opinion of the ongoing talks between Major League Baseball owners and the MLB Players Association regarding the start of the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a video that stars McCutchen negotiating with a "child," the veteran promises the young lad some juice as a reward if he successfully uses the toilet.
However, McCutchen later reneges and instead repeatedly offers the child water, albeit in different containers:
"I know we agreed on juice," McCutchen says. "But what about water?"
"It doesn't matter that we agreed on juice," he adds. "I'm your dad, and you're drinking water. Now you're gonna drink this water, or you don't drink anything at all.
"Who's thirsty?"
In March, the players and MLB owners agreed to prorated salaries for a pandemic-shortened season, but owners have since attempted to get the union to accept prorated pay at varying percentages or an offer that included revenue shares.
MLB insider Jon Heyman has reported some around the league are prepared for commissioner Rob Manfred to exercise a portion of the March agreement that allows him to schedule a campaign that includes as few as between 48 and 54 regular-season games.
As ESPN's Jeff Passan explained earlier this month, that amount of liquid could leave many players parched and angry.
