Yankees offseason still incomplete despite strong start

The New York Yankees have made progress on their offseason to-do list.

Trades for Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo have revamped their outfield. Marcus Stroman slots in as a needed second starter behind Gerrit Cole. Cody Morris is an intriguing arm for the bullpen. It is a strong start to the offseason. It is also just that - a start.

The Yankees still have holes throughout their roster. Isiah Kiner-Falefa's departure leaves a gaping hole on the bench. The infield depth is starting third baseman DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza.

Injury-plagued seasons for Nestor Cortes Jr. and Carlos Rodon make them question marks heading into 2024; another piece in the rotation would help. Options are available.

The Yankees had made an offer to Blake Snell before pivoting to Stroman; they could revisit those conversations if he remains in free agency. Mike Clevinger and Michael Lorenzen would help stabilize the rotation if they want to take a less expensive route. Enrique Hernandez, Whit Merrifield or a reunion with Matt Carpenter would provide the depth needed on the bench. Hernandez and Merrifield would also provide more outfield depth, another area of need.

Pitchers and catchers are a month away from reporting. The offseason is passing by faster than one may realize. And yet, there is still plenty of time for the Yankees to complete their to-do list. There are plenty of options to choose from.

The Yankees had a strong start to their offseason yet there is still a lot of work left to do. Fortunately for them, time is on their side in what has been an incomplete revamping of the roster.
