While bolstering the bullpen has been identified as a potential need for the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, the team could also look to add an outfielder.
As it currently stands, the Dodgers are set to return a group that includes Teoscar Hernández, Tommy Edman, Andy Pages and Alex Call, among others.
The thought behind L.A. acquiring another outfielder is to get more athletic, especially with Edman potentially being limited after undergoing right ankle surgery and Hernández’s defensive woes in right field.
They could also use more offensive production in left field after Michael Conforto struggled for most of the 2025 season.
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman confirmed that the team is looking to add someone to their outfield mix, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
“I think adding someone to the mix is definitely in play,” Friedman said, indicating “figuring out our outfield” is a top offseason priority. But we’re also not going to force anything. It could be an opportunity for some guys that we have. That’s part of what we’re spending a lot of time on this winter – trying to figure out the optimal configuration for our position-player group. We have some versatility and with versatility comes more options in terms of how to deploy different guys.”
The Dodgers theoretically could elect to move Hernández back to left field, where he played in 2024, and acquire a right fielder.
The most obvious option would be signing Kyle Tucker, who is the consensus top free agent of the offseason. While he would fill their need, recent reports suggest L.A. is unwilling to break the bank for Tucker.
The Dodgers have also been linked to Cody Bellinger, who would also require a multi-year contract. If the team prefers more of a short-term option, they could sign Harrison Bader or trade for the Cleveland Guardians’ Steven Kwan.
If the Dodgers decide against adding an outfielder, they could look internally to fill their need in left field.
One conceivable answer could be Ryan Ward, who was recently added onto the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.
