Angels 3B Anthony Rendon to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim third baseman Anthony Rendon will see his season end with surgery for the second year in a row.

Rendon is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right wrist next week, ending his season, the team announced on Friday.

It's another tough break for Rendon, who saw his 2021 season cut short due to surgery on his right hip in August.

Rendon's wrist has been an issue since May, when he was placed on the injured list and then activated on June 10. However, he left Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers when pain in the wrist crept back up.

The 32-year-old played in 45 games for the Angels this season. Rendon batted .228/.324/.383 with five home runs and 24 RBI.

Rendon has played in only 155 games over three seasons with the Angles. He has 20 home runs and 89 RBI while slashing .252/.359/.421.

Four years remain on Rendon's seven-year, $245 million contract signed with the Angels in 2020. He's scheduled to receive a $38 million base salary through 2026.
