Angels All-Star Mike Trout won't return from IL when eligible

The hits keep coming for the Los Angeles Angels

The Angels are languishing in fourth place within the AL East and have lost 10 of their last 11 games. To make matters worse, it seems they'll  be without three-time MVP Mike Trout for a bit longer.

Trout reportedly needs more time to recover from a ribcage injury suffered before the all-star break.

Per the Angels' head athletic trainer, Mike Frostad, Trout received a cortisone shot earlier in the week, meaning he won't be activated off the IL when eligible on Monday. When Trout retakes the field for the Angels is still unknown.

Trout earned his 10th all-star nod but sat out this year's Midsummer Classic with what the team initially called back spasms. However, on July 18, the Angels placed Trout on the IL with left rib cage inflammation.

The 30-year-old is slashing .270/.368/.599 with 24 home runs and 51 RBI in 79 games for the Angels this season.

Trout wasn't the only Angels MVP in the news on Saturday. According to a report from MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Angels have turned away teams calling about a possible trade for reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani.
