The Los Angeles Angels have started the 2025 MLB season in promising fashion. Winning three of their first four games after a franchise record 99 losses last season, the Angels entered Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals in good form.

Defeating St. Louis in extra innings on Monday, Los Angeles was looking to make it consecutive victories to open the series, and four-straight overall. With a combination of veterans like star outfielder Mike Trout, and young players like 22-year-old pitcher Ryan Johnson, the Angels have constructed a roster they believe will be much more competitive than last year's group.

Not done making moves, the Angels announced a new trade on Tuesday that sends a relief pitcher to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations.

"The #Angels have traded RHP Michael Petersen to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash considerations," the team announced via its official public relations account on X.

Petersen has made 16 appearances at the MLB level since debuting for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. The 6-foot-7 right-hander was waived by the Dodgers before signing with the Miami Marlins where he made five appearances before being waived again and picked up by the Toronto Blue Jays ( via Baseball Reference).

Posting a 5.95 ERA between Los Angeles and Miami, Petersen was picked up by the Angels off waivers ahead of Spring Training and has now been flipped to Atlanta for cash. He made five appearances in spring for the Angels, tallying 5.2 innings pitched while surrendering five hits and two earned runs.
