Angels' Dexter Fowler to undergo season-ending surgery for torn ACL

The Los Angeles Angels will be without outfielder Dexter Fowler for the remainder of the 2021 season. He will undergo season-ending surgery for a torn ACL in his left knee, the club announced Sunday.

MEDICAL UPDATE: An MRI on Dexter Fowler’s left knee yesterday revealed a torn ACL. Surgery will be performed at a later date. Recovery time for the outfielder is expected to be 6-9 months.

The Angels placed Fowler on the injured list after he was carted off during Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

L.A. acquired Fowler during the offseason in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 35-year-old finishes with a .250/.286/.250 slash line and one RBI on five hits. He'll become a free agent after the 2021 campaign.

Juan Lagares and Jared Walsh could see more playing time with Fowler done for the season.
