Angels Discussing 2 All-Star Free Agents With Agent Scott Boras: Report
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels still have clear holes to fill, and fortunately for them, this free agency period has taken longer than expected to conclude.

On March 11, reigning National League Cy Young award winner Blake Snell remains a free agent. So, too, do World Series hero Jordan Montgomery and All-Star designated hitter J.D. Martinez.

The Angels have been linked to Snell all offseason long, and those rumors have gotten hotter as of late.

On Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post continued to link Snell to the Angels, while also mentioning their interest in Martinez.

"They are actually talking about both Snell and DH J.D. Martinez both," Heyman wrote.

On the Snell front, he added: "I do believe Snell would relish the idea of the Angels as a West Coaster from Seattle who’s spending his winter (and now spring) in Orange County, working out and coaching a kids team. But it sounds like the sides still have work to do."

Snell is coming off a 2023 season in which he led the league with a 2.25 ERA and had 234 strikeouts. He won his second Cy Young award and is still just 31 years old, but has yet to find a suitor to meet his asking price.

As for Martinez, he's coming off one of the best seasons of his career with the Dodgers. The 36-year-old slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs and 103 runs batted in.

The Angels have a Shohei Ohtani-sized hole in both the rotation and lineup. Snell and Martinez would make an ideal fit, and would cost a lot less than the $700 million Ohtani got this offseason (that Arte Moreno declined to offer him).
