The Los Angeles Angels fell to the New York Yankees on Monday night, making it three straight losses after an eight-game winning streak. It has been an up-and-down season for LA, with this latest skid dropping the Angels back to fourth in the AL West standings.

One of the biggest bright spots for the Angels this season has been right-handed hitting catcher Logan O'Hoppe. The 25-year-old has emerged into a star this year, posting an .832 OPS that ranks third among qualified MLB catchers. His 14 home runs trail only Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh for first at the position.

O'Hoppe exited Monday's loss without any initial explanation from the team. He was replaced by backup catcher Travis d'Arnaud in the ninth inning defensively. After the game, the team announced via manager Ron Washington that O'Hoppe was hit in the helmet on a backswing and is getting evaluated.

"Logan O’Hoppe was hit in the helmet with a backswing on the last out of the 8th inning," Sam Blum of The Athletic wrote on X. "He was taken out as a precaution, Ron Washington said. And he’s getting further evaluation now."

O’Hoppe will likely have to pass certain concussion tests before being cleared to play again. The Angels will be back in action against New York on Tuesday. As they look to snap this three-game skid, doing so without one of their most productive offensive players would be challenging.

A 23rd round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018, O'Hoppe excelled in Minor League baseball with an .853 OPS and has just started to show that prowess in the Majors.
