The Los Angeles Angels lost to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday and now head into Wednesday's series finale tied 1-1. Los Angeles is 5-5 in their last 10 games. Furthermore, with a 17-24 record, they sit at the bottom of the AL Central standings. Only the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox have a worse record than them in the AL.
Wednesday's game could be a big one for the Angels as they have won just two series in the last month. Especially considering that their next series is against the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers, this could be big for the Angels.
Ahead of their series finale against the Padres, however, the Angels made an unfortunate injury announcement that impact the rest of the season.
After a fantastic season in 2024, expectations were high for Angels relief pitcher Ben Joyce. Unfortunately for him and the team, Joyce suffered a shoulder injury in his fifth game of the season back in April. On Wednesday, the team announced that Joyce underwent shoulder surgery and will likely be out for the rest of the season.
“Ben Joyce underwent surgery to repair his right shoulder earlier this morning," the Angels PR account said on X. "He is expected to miss the remainder of the season.”

“Ben Joyce underwent surgery to repair his right shoulder earlier this morning. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season.”
Before going down with his injury, Joyce recorded a 6.23 ERA, one walk, and one strikeout in 4.1 innings. All three of the earned runs he allowed were in his final appearance of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays, however.
Joyce is still just 24 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. Regardless, this is a tough blow for an Angels team who has not made a postseason appearance in over a decade.
