First baseman Nolan Schanuel is in his third season with the Los Angeles Angels after being selected 11th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Florida Atlantic University.
The 23-year-old left-handed slugger made his MLB debut for the Angels on August 18, 2023, just 40 days after being drafted. This was the fastest debut for a position player in over 45 years.
Since then, he has operated as a productive hitter in the middle of the lineup every day for Los Angeles. Over 270 career games, he is batting .261 with a .728 OPS with 22 home runs and 100 RBIs.
Schanuel was hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, and was removed from the game and replaced by veteran Lamonte Wade Jr.
The team announced moments later on X, “Nolan Schanuel was removed from today's game with a left wrist contusion.”

In 94 games this season, the Angels’ first baseman has produced eight home runs, 40 RBIs and four stolen bases while batting .274 with a .758 OPS—both the highest marks of his young career.
The Angels currently sit at 48–50, four games back of the third Wild Card spot. If Schanuel misses an extended amount of time with his wrist injury, Wade would likely slot into the everyday lineup.
Los Angeles now finds itself in a pivotal stretch as every game could decide whether they hold the current lineup or sell off pieces as the trade deadline approaches.
