Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout has already played the same number of games this season that he played all of 2024. Appearing in his 29th game on Wednesday, Trout matched the 29 appearances he made last season. While the Angels are just 12-17 to start the season, having Trout out there every night has been a major positive when considering his injury issues in recent years.
Making the move to right field after spending most of his first 14 MLB seasons in center, Trout hoped the position change would keep him healthy. That looked to be the case early, but the three-time MVP suffered an injury scare in Wednesday's loss to the Seattle Mariners.
Exiting the game after two at-bats, Trout was replaced by right-handed outfielder Jo Adell. The Angels did not provide an official update during the game, but manager Ron Washington told reporters after the game that Trout had soreness in his knee and was removed as a precaution ( via Jeff Fletcher of SoCal News Group).
Trout later told reporters he hoped to play in Thursday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers, but the Angels have since made the decision to hold him out.

This is the first game Trout is missing this season, although he is seemingly available off the bench. Per Washington, Trout did receive additional testing, but the veteran manager would not reveal what those evaluations were (via Sam Blum of The Athletic).
