On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels lost to the New York Mets and suffered their second series sweep in July. Furthermore, with this loss, Los Angeles has lost four of their last five games and sits five games behind the Boston Red Sox for the third spot in the AL Wild Card.
Though the Angels have struggled recently, they still have reason to celebrate. In his last 11 games, outfielder Mike Trout has returned to form a bit at the plate, hitting .271 with five home runs and 14 RBIs. Furthermore, the New Jersey native made history on Wednesday despite the Angels' loss.
While he has had injury problems in recent years and may not be the same player he was at his peak, Trout still provides a lot of value to the Angels. This was especially noticeable on Wednesday, when he made history by recording the 198th road home run of his career. With this newest milestone, he surpassed Mark McGwire for the ninth spot.

Trout is 20 home runs behind Manny Ramirez on the list. However, given that his 34th birthday is roughly two weeks away, it will be borderline impossible for him to surpass the former World Series MVP.
While continuing to make MLB history is an incredible feat for Trout, it is fair to assume that his eyes are set on making the playoffs. There is a lot of baseball left for the Angels to make it happen, but they need to step up and finish the second half of the season on a high note.
