Angels reliever Austin Warren suffers nasal fracture during batting practice

Los Angeles Angels right-handed relief pitcher Austin Warren is going to the injured list after he was hit in the nose by a stray ball during batting practice Tuesday ahead of a game against the Boston Red Sox. The impact caused a nasal fracture, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Warren, 26, has appeared in seven games this season with eight hits and four runs allowed in 8.1 innings pitched. He's one of four Angels pitchers who has picked up multiple wins so far this year. The 2018 sixth-round pick appeared in 16 games last season and allowed 16 hits and four runs over 20.1 innings.

Los Angeles is off to a strong start to the 2022 season with a 15-9 record and 2.5-game lead over the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners in the AL West. Angels pitchers collectively have a 3.65 ERA, 18th best in MLB. The team has leaned on its offense, which has scored an AL-best 110 runs.

To fill Warren's spot on the roster, the Angels announced they will recall right-handed pitcher Elvis Peguero from the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees. Last season, Peguero appeared in three games with the Angels and allowed seven runs in just 2.1 innings.

Other right-handers in the Angels bullpen include Ryan Tepera, Oliver Ortega and Mike Mayers.
