The Los Angeles Angels are in familiar territory with Mike Trout, as the future Hall of Famer is on the 10-day IL with a knee injury. The 33-year-old last played on April 30 and is slashing .179/.264/.462 with nine homers and 18 RBI over 29 games this season.

Trout played 29 games the entirety of last year, and played 82 in 2023. Before that, the 6-foot-2-inch, 235-pounder played 119 contests in 2022 and 36 in 2021.

However, the Angels are hot despite their star's absence. They've won five straight games heading into Wednesday night's bout with the Athletics, and are one game ahead of them for fourth place in the AL West.

On top of that, Trout announced an encouraging update on Wednesday, via The Orange County Registry's Jeff Fletcher.

"Mike Trout said he ran at 80% today," Fletcher reported. "Still has to run the bases."

The three-time AL MVP went 1-for-2 against the Seattle Mariners on April 30 before leaving the game with a sore knee. Los Angeles lost 9-3.

The Angels swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in their previous series, who lead the NL West by 1.5 games. They would also clinch a series win against the Athletics with a win on Wednesday in Sacramento. Right-handed pitcher Jack Kochanowicz (3-5, 4.71 ERA) will start for Los Angeles, while southpaw JP Sears (4-3, 3.31 ERA) will start for the Athletics.

The Angels will finish their four-game set in Sacramento on Thursday before hosting the Miami Marlins and New York Yankees.
