Anthony Rendon had a hilarious response to questions about his lack of power

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is off to a more than solid start to the 2023 campaign, but recently, his power-less swing has become a topic of conversation.

Speaking with reporters Wednesday, Rendon was questioned about his lack of pop at the plate, responding with a hilarious quip.

"I'm not Tony four-bags," Rendon said via Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

When it comes to contributing, Rendon said, "Homers aren't the only category" before adding that he'd never been known for going deep.

Rendon isn't wrong, but during his time with the Washington Nationals, he averaged 22 home runs a season from 2014-19. Those aren't jump-off-the-stat-sheet power numbers, but they are probably around the ballpark the Angels expected from Rendon when they inked him to a seven-year, $245M contract in 2020.

Entering the 2023 campaign, Rendon had recorded only 20 home runs over 157 games. Now, 27 games into his fourth season with the Angels, Rendon has gone deep only once in 118 plate appearances.

Los Angeles would surely like to see more balls leave the yard off Rendon's bat. However, after three injury-riddled seasons for Rendon, the Angels have to be happy with his production at the plate thus far.

Rendon recently had a modest five-game hitting streak snapped and has hit safely in nine of the last 11 games. Over that stretch, Rendon has gone 16-of-46 with his lone home run, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored.

The 33-year-old has knocked in 19 runs this season, slashing .283/.415/.348 in 27 games.
