The Arizona Diamondbacks will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day in Miami to begin a three-game away series today against the Marlins to begin their second road trip of the 2025 season.

The Marlins come into this matchup with an 8-7 record and are certainly exceeding some expectations early on in the season. On the other hand, Arizona comes into today’s game with a 9-7 record.

Arizona will have Merrill Kelly on the mound today, who is looking to have another terrific outing. In Kelly’s last start, he pitched six innings and only gave up two earned runs and no home runs against the Baltimore Orioles. Kelly has an inflated ERA after his breakdown against the Yankees, though has looked better since, having a 2-1 record after three starts.

The Marlins will be having Connor Gillespie get the start today in Miami. Gillespie, so far in the 2025 season, has a 0-1 record with a 3.86 ERA alongside twelve strikeouts in fourteen innings. Gillespie will be hoping he’ll get some run support from some of the Marlins hitters as well.

Key players in today’s matchup:

Some Marlins key players to keep an eye out for include Otto Lopez who has three doubles, two home runs, and seven walks while hitting .232. Xavier Edwards has been a highlight for this Marlins offense as well so far in 2025, as he has a .310 batting average with five RBIs.

The Diamondbacks are hoping Corbin Carroll can continue his hot streak. Carroll has five home runs with a .333 batting average and is second in the entire MLB in slugging percentage. Geraldo Perdomo will also look to keep up his start to the 2025 season, as he is following Carroll’s lead hitting a .333 batting average but has 13 RBIs on the season on top of that.

Today the D-Backs will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day! All players and coaches wear the No. 42 in honor of Robinson’s jersey number honoring his legacy of being the first African American player to break the color barrier in the MLB. First pitch is at 3:40 p.m. MST.
