Arizona Diamondbacks Make History In 1-0 Win Over Pittsburgh Pirates

The Arizona Diamondbacks made history last night when they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 in 11 innings. Arizona is the only MLB team in the modern era to win a game 1-0 in 11+ innings while surrendering one or no hits. A triple by Tommy Pham in the bottom of the 2nd inning was Pittsburgh’s only hit of the evening.

Arizona’s lone run was on a sacrifice fly by Eugenio Suarez in the top of the 11th frame. How will the Arizona Diamondbacks play over the remainder of this series?

Arizona Diamondbacks Season Summary

The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. They made their first move when they traded Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners earlier this week. There is also speculation that Suarez, having the season of his life, could be on his way out the door over the next week. There are conflicting reports regarding how aggressively the team will shed assets at the deadline.

Arizona is in fourth place in the National League West and four games back in the wild card race. The team does not have much of a chance to make the postseason. It would be smart for the team to punt on the second half of the season and attempt to offload their most sought-after assets.

Final Thoughts

The next week will be an interesting one for the Arizona Diamondbacks. No one is quite sure which direction the team will choose to take. While the front office weighs its options, the team returns to the diamond tonight for the middle game of their three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
