Arizona Diamondbacks target turnaround facing surging Mets on Wednesday

The Arizona Diamondbacks will try and get some payback on Wednesday night at Citi Field, as they play the second game of their three-game series against the New York Mets.

The D-Backs dropped the first game of their series yesterday, losing by a score of 8-3. Eduardo Rodriguez put them behind early, as he gave up eight earned runs on nine hits in four innings. New York has been on a tear lately, as the Mets have won ten out of their last twelve games.

Wednesday’s pitching matchups:

RHP Corbin Burnes will toe the rubber today for Arizona, and Burnes is still looking to take that next step forward. Burnes hasn’t had an ineffective season, but it hasn’t been up to his Cy-Young standards. He comes into this matchup still looking for his first win of the season, as Burnes has a 0-1 record with a 4.05 ERA. In his last outing at Chase Field, he pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three runs on three hits to the Tampa Bay Rays, though only one of those was an earned run.

The New York Mets will have RHP Huascar Brazoban take the mound today. Brazoban has been on point so far in 2025, as his 1.56 ERA in 13 appearances shows how successful he has been. It is projected that New York will turn over innings to LHP Brandon Waddell, at some point on Wednesday. After signing a minor league deal with New York this offseason, he has a 1.54 ERA in five starts.

Head Coach Torey Lovullo is looking to change things up amidst problems of getting consistent hitting at the plate. Arizona will have Tim Tawa lead off today, and will give Geraldo Perdomo an off day after he had two hits on Tuesday. Garrett Hampson will get the start in his place. First pitch at Citi Field on Wednesday is at 4:10 p.m. MST.
