Oakland A's president Dave Kaval had a humiliating day in front of the Nevada legislature. The team hasn't lost since.
During a special session of the Nevada legislature, lawmakers heard testimony about the Athletics' proposed new ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip. A former A's employee had harsh words for Kaval, calling him a "walking, talking bobblehead."

Kaval didn't look unlike a bobblehead earlier in the session when he tried to dodge a question about whether the A's would pay Nevada's live entertainment tax.
Wow. This was a bad exchange for the #Athletics. Like REALLY bad. They dragged these legislators back into special session and they can't even provide straight answers. pic.twitter.com/YoLVbFSOny

Perhaps the A's were inspired by seeing Kaval get raked over the coals, and they started raking themselves. A week ago, the A's had won less than 20 percent of their games and were on pace to win a historically terrible 31 games. Now they're on a six-game win streak, with the first five coming on the road, where they previously lost 15 straight games.
The Oakland Athletics made a four-run fifth inning stand up as Shea Langeliers' three-run double and a second straight strong start from James Kaprielian helped the A's beat Tampa Bay 4-3 for their sixth straight win.https://t.co/jFoXN801G4

If the team is feeding off negativity, then Tuesday should keep the bad times rolling. Tuesday night, Oakland fans have planned a "reverse boycott" of the team. Angry fans are giving out 7,000 T-shirts reading "SELL," urging owner John Fisher — Kaval's boss — to sell the team, rather than trying to move the team he's gutted in both salaries and talent.

Tearing into the team's management seems to be a winning formula for Oakland. Not only is the team winning, but Kaval and Fisher have so far struck out in their attempt to get $380 million in public funding from Nevada.
If the team keeps winning, management might have to embrace the negativity. What about a Kaval dunk tank next to the BART pedestrian ramp to the ballpark? A giveaway where five lucky fans get to roast battle Kaval? Or perhaps a cardboard cutout of Fisher with a speech bubble reading, "You Guys Stink!"
Whatever the reason, the 2023 Oakland A's are no longer on pace to be the worst team in modern baseball history. They're now only on pace to be the worst team in the last 61 years, and unlike the A's ballpark effort in Nevada, they're actually showing some progress.
