Astros 3B Alex Bregman has wrist surgery, expected back in time for spring training

The Houston Astros announced in a statement Monday morning that third baseman Alex Bregman underwent surgery on his right wrist and is expected to be ready to join the team in spring training in 2022.

Bregman was all smiles as he posted a photo to social media following the surgery.

The 27-year-old infielder saw his 2021 campaign hampered by various injuries, missing two months with a quadriceps injury at the start of the season before bouncing in and out of the lineup in later months because of the wrist injury. He finished the regular season slashing .270/.355/.422 with 12 home runs, 55 RBI and 54 runs scored with 94 hits.

The wrist injury visibly bothered Bregman during the Astros' recent postseason stint, and he ended that run with just 13 hits in 60 at-bats. His struggles led to him dropping to seventh in the batting order during the World Series, which Houston lost to the Atlanta Braves.

"It felt kind of like it wasn't there for a lot of it," Bregman said of his postseason struggles, via ESPN. "Obviously, (I) take responsibility for that. You obviously take pride in being healthy and being there for a full season, and I wasn't able to do that for the last two years."
