Astros' Alex Bregman on IL with quad strain

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is set to miss at least 10 days and may be out even longer.

Per Alyson Footer of the MLB website, Houston placed Bregman on the injured list Thursday because of the left quad strain he suffered in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Texas Rangers. The 27-year-old endured the setback running to first base in an attempt to beat out a double play in the bottom of the first inning of the contest and did not return.

Manager Dusty Baker told reporters Wednesday evening he expects Bregman will be sidelined for "a while."

Bregman heads to the IL batting .275 with seven home runs and 34 RBI on the campaign. In a corresponding roster move, the Astros recalled catcher Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Round Rock.

Houston, meanwhile, goes into Thursday's matchup against the Chicago White Sox at 39-28 and in second place in the American League West standings, 2.5 games back of the first-place Oakland Athletics.
